INFORMATION FOR TEACHERS & LEADERS

The Greater Baton Rouge State Fair offers a number of learning activities for all age groups. You may want to encourage your students/members to participate in or visit one or more of the following. The Fair opens at 5:00 PM on weekdays and 1:00 PM on weekends.

THE FARM EXPERIENCE

The Farm Experience allows students to see, pet, feed, and learn more about the animals found on a farm. The hatching chickens and milking cow are experiences few city children get to enjoy. The Farm Experience situated at the north end of the food plaza is open whenever the fairgrounds are open to the public. It may be open to groups at other times during the week by appointment. Study materials may be available.

JUNIOR LIVESTOCK SHOWS

Junior Livestock Shows are held in the Livestock Pavilion on weekends. The interactions between the show animals and their young trainers provide enjoyment while the viewers learn what constitutes a champion.

OUTSTANDING VOLUNTEER STUDENTS

Every year the Greater Baton Rouge State Fair gives scholarships to outstanding volunteer students in schools in East Baton Rouge and surrounding parishes. One of the past winners is shown here with her letter and check - and a very proud father.

BUSTER L. BROWN DAY AT THE FAIR

This special day for special needs students between the ages of 2 and 12 from seven area parishes is provided by the Greater Baton Rouge State Fair (by invitation only - contact Dusty Manson for information).

GRANTS

The Baton Rouge Fair Foundation makes grants available for youth-oriented worthy causes in the Greater Baton Rouge area.
